Just returned from ham and eggs in Nashville at the 417 Union Street café. Memorable. The town is really a destination these days and not just for country music. Home town Titians trounced the Eagle 35-15. Did try to go to Grand Old Opera…sold out. Ditto the Impressionist exhibit straight from the Musee d’ Orsey in Paris and to my huge disappointment same for the Chihuly glass art exhibition both at the very impressive Frist Center for Visual Arts. Did make it to Fidos for double latte. In fact its worth a trip on its own. Want to try the chopped salad with grilled chicken. Best part of all SWA has daily direct flight…remember those…San Diego – Nashville. Cuil.
OK. What next? Always struck by the diversity of homes across this great land of ours. And not just in price, but in the architecture, neighborhoods, landscape and the feel. Some places best for walking others gotta drive to get around. Being from Southern California I’m still in awe of trees, so many trees out there! Truly there’s something for everyone.
The global economies are still a mess and certainly are putting a damper on much of what we do and want to do; and yes we are all inter-dependent whether we like it or not. India and China each with billion plus populations. USA around 300 million. World six billion. So what about these budgets, deficits, national debts, interest rates, and yes mortgages so often the under pinning of many economies and the precursor to recovery? How to put all this money and escalating numbers in some sort of perspective? Try this simple illustration. One million seconds equals eleven days…one billion seconds equals thirty-two years…one trillion seconds equals 32,000 years. Guess a trillion dollars is a lot of money?
Noticed the other day that the University of Texas inaugurated its newest and the first known digital only library with some 470,000 books available only on-line with not a book in sight.…while the Vatican library established in 1475 in Rome re-opened after extensive remodel with 1.6 million volumes spread over 37 miles of shelves on 7 floors. Hmmm?
Things as we know them and importantly the way we access them are moving on-line exponentially. Things to watch. The Internet. The cloud. The tablet or iPad. Augmented reality. And iPhone out sold Black Berry for the first time with Android moving up fast…very fast.
Looks like France is going to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62. Lots of other nations are raising to 70. Viva le France. Is there a direct flight?
Just looked out my window and smiled, back to normal, the weather that is…warm breeze and sunny sky. Had scallops with sautéed vegetables and potatoes Dauphine for lunch at Tapenade Restaurant my long time favorite in La Jolla. Thinking an ideal day goes like this, balmy fall sunshine day, morning latte at Peter’s (aka Brick n Bell aka BnB) scallops or maybe coq a vin at Tapenade and late afternoon a double espresso at Peter’s. Oh better drop by the office too.
And above it all, remember Winston Churchill had it right when he commented, “America will always do the right thing, after exhausting every other alternative”.
